Composer Behind Night Vale Theme Steps Into the Spotlight for First Southern California Solo Show
South Pasadena, CA — On Tuesday, August 5, the composer known as Disparition—whose eerie, iconic sound has helped define Welcome to Night Vale and Alice Isn’t Dead—steps into the spotlight with Summer Solis, a rare solo set and his first Los Angeles performance in years. The show runs from 7 to 9 PM at Visionarium, an intimate venue in South Pasadena known for its cinematic ambiance, cultural programming, and refined Italian-inspired menu. Tickets are $12.51, which includes a $10 voucher redeemable for a drink or small plate, plus a $2.51 ticketing fee.
Fans know Disparition as the tall, enigmatic figure behind the sound desk at Night Vale live shows—long hair shadowing his face, hands coaxing eerie worlds out of synths and samples in real time. But he’s more than a ghost in the machine. Offstage, he’s spent decades sharpening his craft: touring the West Coast with the new-age trio Raqia, composing for podcasts and stage productions, and building sprawling, 30-minute-plus compositions that blur the lines between literature, ambient electronics, techno, and prog rock. His solo work is textured and cinematic—an unpredictable weave of live instrumentation and layered soundscapes that are as emotionally resonant as they are immersive.
Summer Solis offers an intimate listening experience: atmospheric, dreamlike, and fully alive. Disparition hopes this performance will set the stage for a rooftop show at Visionarium later this year. Beyond the dining room at Visionarium, visitors can browse curated Italian wines, pantry treasures, and—if they climb the staircase—fashion apparel imported directly from Italy.
